Garage Door Repair in the GTA
A garage door that suddenly feels heavy, sits crooked, makes new noises or stops halfway usually needs more than another push of the remote. ADR checks the door as a complete system, identifies what failed and explains the repair and price before approved work begins.
Residential service is available across Richmond Hill, Toronto, Vaughan, Markham and surrounding GTA communities. Same-day appointments may be available based on location, schedule and parts availability.
What’s Going Wrong With Your Garage Door?
You do not need to know the name of the failed part before calling. The way the door behaves often gives a useful starting point for diagnosis.
The door will not lift
A visible gap in a torsion spring or a door that suddenly feels very heavy can point to a spring problem.
Garage door spring repair →One side hangs lower
A loose, damaged or failed lift cable can leave the door crooked and change how its weight is supported.
Garage door cable repair →The door is off track
A roller outside the track, impact damage or uneven cable tension can leave the door unstable. Stop operating it until checked.
Garage door troubleshooting →The opener runs but the door does not move
The opener may not be the failed part. A broken spring, disconnected trolley or door-balance problem can produce similar symptoms.
Garage door opener repair →The door shakes or sounds different
Worn rollers, loose hardware, hinge wear, track alignment or poor balance can all change how a garage door moves.
Check common garage door problems →The door closes and reverses
Photo-eye alignment, an obstruction, travel settings or resistance in the door can cause unexpected reversing.
Troubleshoot a door that will not close →A Crooked or Unstable Garage Door Deserves Attention
If one side is noticeably higher than the other, a cable is loose, a roller has left the track, or the door suddenly feels unusually heavy, avoid repeatedly opening and closing it.
Continuing to operate an unstable door can add strain to tracks, rollers, panels and the opener. Keep people and vehicles clear of the opening until the cause is known.
- Visible spring separation or broken spring
- Loose or hanging lift cable
- Roller outside the track
- Door sitting noticeably uneven
- Door feels much heavier than normal
What ADR Checks Before Replacing Parts
Garage door parts work together. A noisy opener may actually be reacting to a heavy door, and a crooked door may involve more than one piece of hardware.
Garage Door Repair Pricing
Starting prices help set expectations before booking. The exact repair price depends on the door, failed part, parts required and labour, and is confirmed after diagnosis before approved work begins.
The standard service-call charge is waived when an eligible recommended residential repair is approved and completed during the appointment. Otherwise, the diagnostic/service-call charge is $29 + HST. View full GTA garage door pricing →
Common Repair Problems We See
These are real ADR service photos showing two of the mechanical problems that can affect how a residential garage door lifts and stays level.
Broken Torsion Spring
A separated torsion spring can leave the door difficult to lift and place unnecessary strain on the opener if operation continues.
Uneven Door and Bottom Gap
A visible gap beneath one side shows that the door is not sitting level. Cable tension, spring balance, track alignment or other hardware may be involved, so the complete door system should be checked before the cause is confirmed.

Not Every Garage Door Problem Means You Need a New Door
A failed spring, cable, roller or opener component can often be repaired without replacing the entire garage door. Replacement becomes more relevant when the door itself has significant damage or an upgrade already makes sense.
Repair is often worth considering when:
- The door sections are still in good condition.
- The problem is isolated to a spring, cable, roller, hinge, track or opener component.
- Compatible replacement parts are available.
- The door otherwise fits your needs.
Compare replacement when:
- Sections are significantly damaged or deteriorated.
- Several major components are worn at the same time.
- Compatible parts are difficult to source.
- You want better insulation, a different style or a planned door upgrade.

Questions Homeowners Ask Before Booking
Straightforward answers about pricing, safety, opener problems and when repair makes sense.
How much does garage door repair cost in the GTA?
Garage door repair cost depends on the failed part, door configuration, required parts and labour. Current ADR starting prices include a promotional garage door tune-up from $59 + HST on qualifying appointments, cable repair $165–$265 + HST, spring repair from $195 + HST and opener repair from $125 + HST. These are starting prices, not guaranteed quotes. The exact price is confirmed after diagnosis and before approved work begins.
Can ADR repair my garage door the same day?
Same-day appointments may be available depending on the time of your call, technician schedule, location and parts required. ADR is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Call to check current availability.
Should I keep using a garage door with a broken spring?
No. A broken spring removes part or all of the counterbalance that helps support the door’s weight. Avoid repeatedly operating the opener and arrange an inspection, especially if the door feels unusually heavy or will not lift normally.
What should I do if one side of my garage door is lower?
Stop operating the door until the cause is known. A loose or failed cable, roller or other hardware problem can leave the door uneven, and continued movement may cause additional track or panel damage.
Does a garage door opener need replacement if it will not lift the door?
Not necessarily. The opener may be working while the door itself has a broken spring, poor balance or another mechanical problem. ADR checks the door system before recommending opener replacement.
Is the service-call charge waived when ADR completes the repair?
ADR waives the standard service-call charge when an eligible recommended residential garage door repair is approved and completed during the appointment. Parts, labour and any additional work are explained before the repair begins.
Do you repair LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman garage door openers?
ADR services many common residential opener systems, including selected LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Craftsman and MyQ-compatible equipment. Whether a unit can be repaired depends on its model, age, symptoms and parts availability.
When is replacing the garage door better than repairing it?
Replacement may be worth comparing when sections are significantly damaged, several major components are worn, compatible parts are difficult to source, insulation is a priority, or you were already planning to upgrade the door. A failed spring or cable by itself does not automatically mean the whole door needs replacement.
Not Sure What’s Wrong? Start With the Symptom.
Tell ADR if the door is stuck, crooked, unusually heavy, noisy or not responding normally. We can start by checking what the door is doing before recommending a repair.
